As a qualified counsellor I have all the skills and experience necessary to accompany you on your journey. I am trained in many different counselling styles and am able to adapt to your unique situation. Trust is a huge part of the therapeutic relationship and I am confident that you will feel that you are able to put your trust in me.
In addition to being a counsellor, I have a range of other qualifications and experiences that I can draw on to enhance my effectiveness in walking alongside you. I initially trained and worked in the field of early childhood education and then qualified as a nurse, working within many different fields ranging from surgical, medical, emergency and cancer nursing. The combination of these experiences has seen me working in the helping profession for over twenty years.
On a more personal note, I am married with three school aged children who keep me busy with their various sporting and cultural activities and from whom I have also learned a great deal!
As your counsellor I will help you to identify and explore your feelings in a caring, non judgemental and confidential environment. I am an extremely dedicated and diligent person who, in the therapeutic relationship, will be committed to the partnership that we will share in order for you to come to a place of healing.
Footsteps Counselling and Medical Knowledge
With a qualified nurse and trained counsellor working at Footsteps, we understand the complexities of illness and disability and, in turn, the difficulties that can cause for patients and their families.
Because of that medical knowledge, we are in an ideal situation to be able to work with clients who are experiencing difficulties or issues with their own, or a family member's, diagnosis and the possible treatment they may have to endure. Previous work in the medical profession means experience working alongside outside agencies which could prove invaluable in complex cases.
We believe in treating an individual as a whole and, therefore, endeavour to work in a holistic manner. Because of this philosophy we are happy to work in collaboration with a client's health care practitioner with the client's consent.
The safety of our clients is our utmost concern. If we feel that a client could be experiencing a medical problem rather than a psychological one, we will advise the client of that potential and suggest that they seek medical care.
